The purpose of the College Leadership Program (CLP) is to support Latino and other youth in researching, selecting and applying for college acceptance. To that end, Building Better Futures provides students with the following services:
· Providing information to Juniors and Seniors regarding colleges in the area;
· Conducting college tours;
· Providing mentoring assistance to support students in writing college essays
and completing college application forms;
· Providing opportunities for students to contribute to community service projects;
· Planning a Year-End Celebration for graduating seniors in the program;
· Providing financial assistance to students for college application fees; and
· Awarding a college scholarship to help cover first semester tuition and/or books for one
student.
Project Discovery
Additionally, through a partnership with Project Discovery, ten Building Better Futures students participate in college preparatory activities, including visits to college campuses. This project addresses the needs of economically disadvantaged students who are the first members of their families to attend secondary-education programs.
